National College Decision Day is upon us! Every May 1, National College Decision Day marks the last day that a senior can make a deposit for the college they plan to attend the following semester. At Fresno Christian, the seniors commemorate this day by wearing a t-shirt from their future college. Academic advisor Evangelina Escovedo elaborates on the importance of National College Decision Day.
“Some of the four-year universities, this is their final deadline for students to either accept or reject the admissions that they provide to students.” Escovedo said. “For students who are very interested in, for example, Fresno State they have to accept by this deadline because if not, then the university is going to say that they reject their admission. So I always inform seniors ‘please take this date seriously, because if you do not accept on this deadline then your admission can be revoked.’”

Senior Annabelle Counts plans to attend Fresno City College for two years before transferring to Fresno State.
“Fresno City has an amazing theater program which is something that I would like to pursue,” Counts said. “So I’m going to be following my musical theater career because they also feed into Fresno State’s program.”
Along with Counts, seniors Joshua Chinn, Jazmine Davidson, Mateo Pasual and Silas Emerian plan to go to Fresno State.
As shown in the infographic, 54% of the 56 seniors are going to college in-state; conversely, 36% of them are traveling out of state post-high school.
29% of the class of 2023 plan to attend a Junior College, 27% plan to study at Grand Canyon University, 7% plan to go to Fresno State and 5% plan to attend Paul Mitchel Cosmetology School. The remaining 16% of the seniors have an array of post-high school plans, ranging from joining the Air Force to taking a gap semester to attending various other colleges.
In total, over $3,000,000 of verified cumulative scholarships were earned by the class of 2023.
As the school year wraps up, there are a few more important dates to remember; finals week will be held the week of May 15, the senior trip will take place May 21-23, and graduation will be May 25, 7 p.m. in the People’s Church auditorium.
