The softball team begins their season with 14 players, consisting of three freshmen, five sophomores, two juniors and four seniors. After losing four seniors from last year’s team, this year’s upcoming players fill in their spots and aim to play the best that they can.
New member of the team, Jane Higton, ’27, explains why she enjoys playing softball and what she’s learned so far.
“Our coach is great and I love being able to play with my friends especially the seniors,” Higton said. “One thing I’ve learned so far is to not get frustrated after making a mistake, just don’t make the same mistake again.”
The team is currently coached by Marilyn Greene, while being assisted by Jason Martin.
With the team still in season, they are at an overall 7-5 game winning streak. This season, the team has already attained five home runs and three shutouts.
Freshman, Madison Bishel obtained a no-hitter streak in a 15-0 game against the Parlier Panthers.
Starting softball in elementary school, Faith DeGroot played all four years in high school. DeGroot talks about her favorite memory throughout her highschool career.
“One of my favorite memories is when I remember being really down in one game,” DeGroot said. “And then by the 6th or 7th inning we managed to, as a team, just keep hitting and staying in the game and we ended up winning. It was so rewarding to just see how we could stay focused enough to stay in the game and finish it out.”
League scheduled home games:
- April 18 vs. Riverdale at 4 p.m.
- April 30 vs. Fowler at 4 p.m.
