Fresno Christian color guard competes in the South Valley Winter Arts Association (SVWAA) circuit, which includes schools from across the Central Valley. This year’s team consists of ten girls, five high schoolers and five middle schoolers.
Color guard placed seventh at their third competition of the season at Golden West High School, earning a score of 56.560. The team competed against six other schools in the Scholastic Regional A Round Two division. Their performance is titled ‘Harold’ and is inspired by the children’s book, Harold and the Purple Crayon.
FCS Color Guard Coach Vanessa Hinojosa has been teaching at FC for five years and has several years of experience competing in the color guard circuit.
“The theme is about creativity and drawing our own world filled with curiosity,” Hinojosa said. “The biggest challenge is exploring the world through movement and expression while doing something that sets us apart. It’s been a joy teaching students all the skill levels and seeing them grow and I’m excited for the upcoming shows.”
The next competition takes place at Lemoore High School, March 7, with color guard performing in the morning. The team will have an exhibition for the school during first period, March 27, before competing at the championships at Sierra Pacific High School, March 29.
