Bored with pizza and a movie? Visit Fresno Chaffee Zoo for an outdoor adventure with friends and family. Go see the lion cubs, visit the Reptile House or Kingdoms of Asia.
The zoo has been a part of Fresno history for the last 97 years. It first opened as Roeding Park Zoo in 1929, the name later changed to Fresno Chaffee Zoo in 1990.
This zoo has been the memories of many kids and families during the many years it has been open. During these years many new exhibits have been implemented, the first major exhibit was the Edward A. Kane Reptile House which opened in 1979 and still houses many reptiles.

The newest exhibit is the Kingdoms of Asia, many animals were moved to this exhibit like the Komodo Dragon, which used to be in the reptile house but now has its own exhibit within the Kingdoms of Asia. The Komodo Dragon, named Budak, was moved from Oglebay Good Zoo in July 2013.
On the way out of the Kingdoms of Asia, the Roo Walkabout has many types of kangaroos including red kangaroos, wallaroos, wallabies, emu and kookaburras. This exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Two lions were born on November 5, 2024 at the zoo and were moved for public viewing in March of 2025. The male is named Taraj and the female is named Asali, they are both available to see in the African Adventure exhibit. This exhibit also houses elephants, rhinos, giraffes and other safari animals.
