The Spring Pops Concert was the last band concert of the year, led by band director Lindsey Clarno, May 7. Four Fresno Christian Bands come together to perform Disney Favorites. The FC bands came together to perform Disney Favorites in the GL Johnson Chapel, which was filled with faculty, friends and family.
The concert’s theme was Disneyland, with the bands performing different songs that represented areas of the park. The night began in Main Street, USA, with the Jazz Ensemble performing “When You Wish Upon a Star.” The journey continues into Adventureland, with pieces such as “Circle of Life” and “Grim Grinning Ghosts,” then moves through Fantasyland before ending in Tomorrowland with “Cantina Band.”
Senior Olivia Saldivar has been a member of the band for seven years and plans to continue playing music in college.
“I felt a little emotional knowing it was my last band concert,” Saldivar said. “I felt a bit sad but at the same time proud of myself, looking back at all I have achieved.”
The band then park-hopped to California Adventure, entering Avengers Campus, where Mya Mericle, ‘28, performs “It’s Been a Long Time” as a solo. The performance continued with Pixar Favorites, including “Ratatouille,” “The Big Race” and “If I Didn’t Have You.”
Senior Bella Barrett has been in band since first grade and will go to college in the fall, where she plans to major in music performance with a minor in creative writing.
“I felt very good, it was relaxed and fun. I was trying not to think too much that it was the last concert,” said Barrett. “It was very emotional, but I felt very good. It was a nice ending to my FCS experience.”
The night ended with all of Fresno Christian Bands and alumni performing “Baba Yetu.”
