BOYS’ SOCCER, 2011-12

PARLIER CAPS OFF ON FC 7-0–Jan. 31
After barely losing to Fowler, Jan. 27, the Eagles hosted the Parlier Panthers, Jan. 31.

The Eagles had an early chance on goal with a shot by senior Sean Carter, but the keeper made the stop. Thereafter, Parlier dominated the scene, scoring three unanswered goals in the first half, 3-0. Sophomore Lucas Lopez says this was due to a lack of effort and concentration.

“I thought we had a lot of good effort in the beginning,” Lopez said. “We got really close to a few goals, but after a while we just kind of let loose, didn’t try as hard and mistakes happened. Things just fell a part from there.”

Parlier continued on their scoring streak in the second half with four more goals, winning 7-0. Freshman Ryan King who came in at forward during the second half says even though they lost he still found it fun to play.

“It was fun, but kind of scary because I didn’t know where to go exactly, but it was fun that I got to play and learn new things,” King said.
“I wish we had done better though and had put forth more effort. We just didn’t have the energy needed to work together.”

With Minarets next up on the schedule, Feb. 1, Lopez says the key to a win is playing hard start to finish.

“We need to definitely not get in the mindset that we’re going to win, not get confident if we score a goal and to not underestimate them,” Lopez said. “Also give 100 percent the whole game and not just a part of the game.”

The Eagles will next travel to play Minarets, Feb. 1.
