Each semester the California Scholarship Foundation (CSF) requires five hours of active members. The club promotes servitude among the community and reaching out to locals.
On December 10 CSF traveled to Brookdale Retirement home, and sang Christmas carols to the residents during lunch.
CSF Advisor, Michelle Warkentin, oversees the club. She looks forward to spreading joy to elderly people who might not receive it otherwise.
“This event is a great way for students to serve the elderly residents of the community right next door,” Warkentin said. “Our hope is to offer some Christmas music, friendly smiles, and conversation to brighten the day of a few individuals. Christmas is a joyful time of year for most but for elderly people who have lost a loved one, this time of year can be very lonely.”
CSF President, Morgan Miller, ’16, believes that it is important to reach out to the community and enjoyed spreading Christmas cheer to those who might not experience it otherwise.
“It’s really nice for them to have visitors, and it’s Christmas time, we have to spread joy. I liked giving them the candy canes with the verses on them. They seemed to really like that.”
