WEEKLY CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR March 7 – March 11

The Feather brings its readers weekly FC campus announcements published the first day of each week. This week coverage is from March 7 – March 11, 2016.

Campus administration is looking for an elementary girls volleyball coach. If interested, contact Jon Penberthy or at the school, 559-299-1695, ext 108.

As the sports schedule gets underway, consider supporting JH and HS athletes at our home games. The week’s athletic events are listed in the weekly announcements below.

Sports Events the Week of 3/7 – 3/11

Tuesday

HS varsity boys baseball vs Minarets at 3:30 p.m.

HS varsity boys tennis at Dos Palos, 4 p.m.

HS varsity girls softball at San Joaquin Memorial, 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday

HS varsity boys basketball state playoff game at St. Bernard in Playa del Rey, 7 p.m.

HS varsity girls softball vs Kings Christian at 3:30 p.m.

Thursday

HS varsity boys tennis at Fowler, 4 p.m.

HS varsity track at George Olson Invitational, 2 p.m.

Friday

HS varsity boys baseball at Farmersville, 3;30 p.m.

T.E.A. Talks

A new group called TEA Talks has formed on campus and is lead by juniors Hannah Nale and Jennifer King. It is open to all HS girls and is meant to build friendships in Christ while encouraging others and learning about the Word.

Spring Formal

Fresno Christian’s Spring Formal, formally known as NOTS, will be held a Wolf Lakes, April 2, 2016. The theme this year will be set in the Roaring 20’s and tickets will be available starting Feb. 29, price TBA. More information will be available soon.

Brother to Brother

Brother to Brother will have an older brother training Mon. March 7 and an off campus lunch Tue. March 8.

Sister to Sister

Sister to Sister will have an older sister training Tue. March 8.

ASVAB

The ASVAB Career Exploration test will take place on Thursday March 31 from 8:30am-12pm in the JJ Room. If you are a 10th, 11th, or 12th grader contact Michelle Warkentin for more details.

Choir Trip

On Sun. March 6 and Mon. March 7, choir and ensemble will be traveling to the 2016 Central Coast Spring Choir Festival. On Sun. they will be performing alongside church bands and Mon. will be the day of the festival. It is from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Feather Travels to NYC for CSPA Conference

The Feather Online and its photographers will travel with advisers Greg Stobbe and Kori Friesen to New York City for the 92nd annual Columbia Scholastic Press Association journalism convention at Columbia University, March 12 – 19. Sixteen Feather staffers and photographers will tour Manhattan and compete for a Gold Crown in one of the oldest and prestigious high school journalism competitions.

Writing Club

Writing Club will be having a meeting at lunch, Mon. March 7. The club provides a space at school for students to explore interests in creative writing. For more information, contact the club supervisor Kyle Dodson.

Break the Barriers

FC is looking for students to volunteer for Break the Barriers on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Volunteer work will count for hours toward CSF.

Boys Basketball Valley Championship and State Playoffs

HS varsity boys basketball participated in the CIF Central Section Division V Valley Championship, Fri. March 4. FC the no. 14 seed lost to Kern Valley no. 1. With their mark in the playoffs the boys earned a spot in state playoffs where they will travel to Playa del Rey and face off against St. Bernard at 7 p.m.

College Trip

The annual college trip has been scheduled for April 4-5. The trip will include visits to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Westmont and UC Santa Barbara. If interested, sign up with Kerry Roberts in building 5 with a $100 check or cash by Thurs, March 3.

CSF

Csf will have a meeting during lunch in room 621 Thurs. March 10.

The CSF Spring Service Project will take place on Saturday March 12 at a local animal shelter from 1-3pm. Permission slips can be picked up from the box outside the high school office upstairs.

Drama Performance

FC’s own drama club, lead by advisor Kyle Dodson, will be performing Hello Dolly, April 14-16. On the 14-15 the performance will begin at 7;30 p.m. and on the 16, 2 p.m. Tickets will be $5 for students and $7 dollars for adults.

Juniors

The next ACT test is on April 9, the registration deadline is March 4. You can register for the test at www.actstudent.org.

A college representative from FPU will be in the junior English classes on Tuesday March 8.

Seniors

Seniors who have applied to a local SCCCD community college must complete their online orientation as soon as possible. If you have any questions please contact Michelle Warkentin.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filing period is open from Jan. 1 – Mar. 2. This is an application for free financial assistance for college and also the application for The Middle-Class Scholarship. For more information about how to apply contact Michelle Warkentin or visit https://fafsa.ed.gov/

Local Cash for College Workshops are also being held now where you can receive help completing the application http://www.csac.ca.gov/ccfc.asp.

ESL help for International Students

Tamara Hill will be available in the library on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3-4 p.m. for ESL support for our international students. Any questions can be directed to Hill.

ON Campus Lunch Menu

JH/HS Leadership will offer lunch throughout the year on Thursday and Friday.
