“The Feather Takes NYC 2016,” this is the second of six videos as apart of a mini series while in New York. The video will be published daily and will account for their various activities during the week. The Feather Online has been nominated to receive a CSPA Gold Crown award; one of the most prestigious online high school newspaper award. A group of 16 Feather staffers have taken the streets of Manhattan in anticipation for this event. While in New York, they will be touring historical landmarks, tasting different foods and shopping at world-renowned stores. Also, the editors and advisors will be teaching four different sessions at Columbia for the CSPA annual Spring Convention. All footage is filmed and edited by Tim Nyberg, Jarrod Markarian and Jaden Ventura.
Day three began with a visit to the American Museum of Natural History. With over 40 exhibits which holds a variety of their 32 million artifacts. The students viewed multiple halls including artifacts pertaining to the environment, earth, plants, birds, reptiles, amphibians, dinosaur fossils, mammals, human culture and origins.
After stopping at Shake Shack for lunch, just one block from Central Park, the staffers spent time observing NY street life. The NY staff then traveled to New Jersey to attend a special behind the scenes tour of the MLB and NHL production studio. They viewed three of the iconic studio sets along with an indoor baseball field for employees to use on their free time. A special thanks to studio coordinator Nicole Neidlinger for providing this opportunity.
To wrap up the day, the staff attended the new Broadway hit Something Rotten at the St. James Theatre. Something Rotten is a musical comedy, set in a modernized Renaissance era, and it about two playwright brothers trying to out due the famous William Shakespeare. A visit to Juniors restaurant for its famous cheesecake and desserts ended the evening.
