Nevan Gonzalez, ’17, strikes his favorite Tae Kwon Do pose, April 6.

Gonzalez, a two year FC boys tennis team member, FC percussionist, and first year FC video productions student, is an avid learner and Christ follower on and off the school campus.

On average, he spends two hours and 15 minutes a week practicing at ATA Black Belt Academy, after properly stretching and warming up with basic techniques. Tae Kwon Do stresses on the kicks and it’s techniques. Unlike Karate, Tae Kwon Do can utilize weapons and every day normal items as weapons.

These hours of after school practice prove to be successful as he is a third degree black belt. He gives credit to his parents and Tae Kwon Do instructor for inspiring him to pick up the sport.

“My instructor is also a believer of Christ, so I can easily relate to him,” said Gonzalez. “He always shares God’s love and shows a Christlike heart through his actions.

In college, he plans to study the engineering field. Considering Fresno State or San Jose State University, Gonzalez appreciates the science behind his sport and believes this facet of his background will be useful in any major he chooses to pursue.

“This sport amazes me, I will use my education to reach new heights in ranking, and will keep practicing Tae Kwon Do,” said Gonzalez. “I could achieve what the higher ranking extreme black belts can do, kicking more than twice in mid air, breaking boards without losing balance, as well as a number of other things.”

Nevan Gonzalez continues to be light on and off the FC campus, leading by example, and honoring God through his actions.
