J.R. Coleman speaks while Christian clubs and churches gather for free food and fellowship at Clovis North High School‘s student-led event: Reach, April 8.
Former FC students and current seniors at Clovis North, Dawson Oquist and Stephen Pimentel, joined forces with other student leaders of their school’s Christian club to come up with the logistics for this event.
The First Amendment and the Equal Access Act protect the right of students to form religious clubs at school and to receive the same benefits given to other non-curriculum clubs. Because there where no teachers, administrators, or coaches leading the event, students were able to freely meet and pray together on this public school campus.
The event was held April 6-8 during their lunch period. Starting on Wednesday, the gym was filled with 200 students, followed by 400 the next two days, who came to hear a variety of speakers, including People’s Church pastor, Brent Deffenbacher, Fellowship of Christian Athletics leader, Lorne Bell, and Breakaway speaker, J.R. Coleman. They each spoke words of inspiration with encouragement for the revival happening in Fresno.
