Students finalized their highs school experience for the 2015-16 year by participating in the spring sports rally. The event was held on Earth day, commemorating Mother Earth, and all of the athletes who are currently in a sport, April 29.

Tyler Villines went into depth upon the creation of the really activities, the purpose of each.

“The main thing we are trying to do is to bring the classes together, ” Villines said. “Instead of having the classes compete against with each other,  we are trying to get them closer together.”

Color guard opened up the rally performing “Broad way, here I come” using flag as well as rifles. Following up the performance, hosts, Josh Carter, ’16, and Villines, ’18, introduced all the spring varsity sports teams to the student body. These included varsity boys baseball, girls softball, track, boys tennis, and golf.

After the introduction of the varsity sports teams, five students from each class volunteered to participate in the rally competition.

The first activity included, wheel barrel, requiring two students, one holding the others feet while the second contestant going across the floor on their hands. The second activity was hole in one, which was basically a game of miniature golf. Following the miniature golf game, the fourth activity was crab walk. This required students to crawl backward on the gym floor while using all their limbs. Lastly the fifth student rans across the floor bouncing a tennis ball  with the opposite side of the racket, in order to finish the competition.

At the end of the rally, the class which brought the most bottles and cans in support of Earth Day and Terry Richards’ brothers to brother program was announced. With significantly higher bottle counts than any other class, the Juniors took the victory and enjoyed free shaved ice provided by Kona Ice.
