[/media-credit] Bell reflects on her time at FC, serving as a photojournalist on The Feather.

After shooting for and writing over 325 photo posts for the Feather, I am just about out of words.

Looking back I am so thankful that I took ownership and was serious about this program. I was always one who knew my experiences would prepare me for a successful life after high school.

This year served as an opportunity for me to hone my skills and practice what I love. It also gave me the courage to launch my own professional photography business, Kylie Elizabeth Photography.

Being photo editor this year has shown me how to be a strong leader and how to use my time to get the most effective results. I have learned how to be a team player, but I have also learned how to work as an individual with the goals of the people around me in mind.

I learned how to be a better writer from on the job training through shadowing reporters.

One that sticks out was my experience at the World Ag Expo with Mariana Fikse, ’18. We carpooled there and spent the entire day exploring and finding information to write about while I gathered pictures.

The most memorable event from my time on The Feather was the releasing of captain Pete Dern from Clovis Regional Medical Center. Dern underwent treatment there as a burn victim for 164 days after a tragic accident.

A distinct memory where I learned a lot from was going to New York with the Feather staff. Joining together to complete what was expected of us to prove we could finish strong was one of my favorite memories throughout the course of the year. Seeing my peers rise to the occasion was very special and I learned how powerful team work can be.

My plans for the future have already begun. I wish to continue building up Kylie Elizabeth Photography and contracting with local marketing companies to provide images for their clients. In the Fall while attending Fresno State, I plan on majoring in marketing and advertising, which will give me the potential of integrating that with my photography skills.

I am confident that through the opportunities that come my way I can be a light, and Christ will shine through me and the work I produce.

To next years’ team: I am giving you one of my greatest joys which I have poured over and devoted hours of my time and energy to. There isn’t a doubt in my mind, I know you can achieve great success in the media program and I believe we have set you up to continue building the Feather to do amazing things. It often will feel like you are just doing this to meet a daily quota, but never loose sight of who you are working for.

A very special thank you to adviser and aunt, Kori Friesen for imparting your vast amount of knowledge to me and training me under your wing. It will never be forgotten.
