Crashing cymbals, booming brass and whistling woodwinds will fill the gymnasium on the night of Nov. 18. The campus concert band, jazz band and junior high band plan to use this first concert of the year as a fundraiser, hoping to raise enough money to fund later band events.

The evening will begin with a tri-tip dinner at 6 P.M., followed by dessert and performances by the various music groups.

For the band, it is an opportunity not only to raise money, but also to display the results of the hard work that has gone into the first several months of school.

“In the past we did not have a Friends of the Band Concert,” Paul McEntee, band director, said. “Our first concert was not until Christmas. I like having a concert in November because it gives us an earlier deadline to work toward.”

As in past years, the concert band and the junior high band will be joining forces for one song, forming one of the largest bands ever produced on campus.

“I like playing with the junior highers,” Will Hierholzer, ’07, said. “It is great to hear what our band would sound like if we were bigger.”

The cost of admission to the evening is $10. The money will contribute to a fund used to purchase new instruments and alleviate the cost of trips the bands will take second semester. Tickets can be purchased from any band member.
