Students must report to office before entering class

The FC handbook is extensive and vital to student life on campus. The rule that is most often broken is the tardy policy. In most cases, the violation of the policy is due to a lack of planning and concentration.

Being tardy means that students have showed up after the bell has rung which means that they must go to the office downstairs to receive a pink slip. School is important and directly correlates with having a real world job.

Jobs stress the importance of arriving on time. Arriving late or on time speaks about what your attitude to is to any deadline. English teacher and yearbook adviser, Andrea Donaghe, believes the tardy policy is essential for the growth from student to adult.

“As a senior English teacher I understand when my senior students come back late after lunch,” Donaghe said. “But being a student is a job and they need to show up on time. It’s important to be responsible and create good habits for the future.”

Academic advisor, Reggie Williams agrees with Donaghe in the fact that the tardy policy is very important to the success of the school. Williams understands there are exceptions to the rule.

“Upholding the tardy rule is very good, and holds students accountable,” Williams said. “But there are certain situations on why a students tardy is excused. It is important that the parent calls in for that student.”

Some students do not like the tardy rule, and wish to change parts of it. Matthew Tanaka, ’17, believes that students should be able to go straight to class. He thinks that waiting in line for a tardy slip with other late students wastes everyone’s time.

“I do not like that we have to wait in a line and be even more late, if you are only a minute or two late, we should just be able to walk in,” Tanaka said. “I don’t like the whole detention rule either, they shouldn’t take away our whole lunch. Most of us don’t bring a lunch and if we have detention then we can’t eat. I believe it shouldn’t be as strict of a rule.”

If a student is late to a class they have to report to the high school office. All students must have a pink slip to get into their classes.
