FC turns back time: Day 5

[/media-credit] The dress up days were finished off with the theme of “Fly Together Friday.”

As the final day of the 32nd homecoming arrived, themed dress up days also came to an end. To cap off the week that saw a variety of unique and silly outfits, the leadership team chose to name the day, “Fly together Friday.” Students were encouraged to wear all of their FC school and sports apparel.

The leadership team chose the theme of “Fly Together Friday” to encourage school spirit. Leadership student Sydney Belmont, ‘17, hopes that the day will get everyone excited for the football game. As a team, leadership thought that it would be best to end the week with spirit wear.

“We are dressing up in spirit wear to encourage school spirit before the homecoming game,” Belmont said. “We want to get everyone pumped up for the game tonight and just get people to support the school. The leadership team just thought that a spirit day would be the best way to end the week.”

Jaden Ventura, ‘18, did not dress up because he was unprepared for the day. Ventura has been devoting much of his time to setting up for homecoming activities. He regrets not setting aside his outfit beforehand.

“I didn’t dress up because I woke up late,” Ventura said. “I would have if I had woken up earlier but this morning I was just really stressed and busy with setting up for other homecoming stuff. Now that I am at school I really wish that I remembered to set something up to wear.”

I love the homecoming game. The amount of people that come to this game is unmatched by any other home game throughout the year. I have played football for four years now and I am super excited to see everyone come watch for my final homecoming game. It will be the most fun game of the year. –senior Tyler Vanderlinden

Some students decided to go all out for the final day of homecoming week. One of those students was Jacob Avedian, ‘18. Avedian wore a maroon jacket, pants and shoes. He decided to dress up today because he wanted to finish the week strong.

“I wanted to finish off the week with a bang,” Avedian said. “I have been dressing up all week long and I’ve had a blast doing it. I love supporting the school and I thought going all out for the final day would be a fun way of doing it.”

Due to the rally occurring at the beginning of the week, there was no special event planned on the final day of the week. Griffin Schmidt, ‘19, thought that the changing the rally to the beginning of the week instead saving it for Friday was a good idea. He thought that it saved a lot of energy for the students.

“I liked the rally being on Monday instead of Friday,” Schmidt said. “Last year we put a lot of effort into getting ready for the rally. Then after school when it was time to set up for the floats, we were all exhausted. This way we have less going on during the stressful Friday. Now without the rally we can focus on setting up our floats.”

While the floats and crowning of the homecoming court will be among the activities, the football game will be the main event. Senior safety and wide receiver Tyler Vanderlinden loves homecoming. Vanderlinden enjoys playing in front of the bigger crowd and hopes that everyone comes to the game. He believes that this is the most entertaining game of the year.

“I love the homecoming game,” Vanderlinden said. “The amount of people that come to this game is unmatched by any other home game throughout the year. I have played football for four years now and I am super excited to see everyone come watch for my final homecoming game. It will be the most fun game of the year.”

The homecoming game tonight will begin at 7 p.m. against Kings Christian. Tri-tip and pulled pork sandwiches ($7) along with frito boats will be offered for sale by Creative Catering. Snacks and drinks will also be available. The freshmen, sophomore, and junior princess candidates will be introduced before the game at 6:30 p.m. At halftime, following the introduction of all king and queen candidates, the winners will be crowned.

Be sure to look for friends, reacquaint with alumni and come out to inspect the homecoming floats. Come join campus in celebrating its 40th year and 32nd homecoming.
