The Associated Student Body leadership is a class for campus students to learn the skills to become future leaders of the world. This class allows students to lead by example and take hold of opportunities that will further equip them as adults.

Besides their roles of hosting student activities and carrying out the wishes of the student body, the class is also reading The Spirit of the Disciplines by Dallas Willard. This book teaches students to be leaders, living out their faith each day with a servant’s attitude.

Student leadership is a privilege for all those who are accepted in. The only way you can get into leadership is by filling out a form. The teachers of student leadership, Robert Foshee and Vicky Belmont, will review the applicants and choose.

“All four of these leadership students love the school and their student body and want to serve,” Foshee said. “They are well qualified and carry unique gifting to the leadership team. I know they are hoping the student body will share comments and concerns to help them serve better.”

While the following four ASB profiles along with ASB president Hannah Nale, ’17, are leaders, many more help serve the student body. However, these are the leaders with the positions of treasurer, secretary, activities manager and vice president.

Griffin Schmidt – Treasurer

The treasurer’s job is to make sure all the money that student leadership raises gets accounted for and is handed to the advisors of the class. For the last 4 years, Griffin Schmidt, ‘19, has been in leadership. He is the treasurer for this year’s Associated Student Body.

Schmidt took the opportunity of being in student body leadership because he felt like it would teach him to be more responsible. He has been apart of leadership ever since 7th grade in Hallie Rojeski’s class.

“I continue to do leadership because I have the opportunity to help the school and fellow classmates,” Schmidt said. “I felt like being in leadership would make me be more involved with school activities. I want to be able to help faculty as well. These things are what really make me continue to do leadership, even after all these years, I want to continue to grow.”

He also talks about how he has more responsibility around the house. He is asked to do many chores like taking out the trash and washing the dishes.

“My expectations have gotten a lot higher in the last 2 or so years,” Schmidt said. “I am asked to do a lot more around the house like helping my mom and dad with things. Speaking of my parents, I am very happy to have loving and motivating parents around me. They help me through every step of the way. ”

Schmidt hopes to be apart of student leadership for the rest of his high school career. He looks at it as an opportunity and he wants to seize that opportunity.

Erin Wilson – Secretary

This is going to be the third year in leadership for Erin Wilson, ‘18. She has taken the responsibility of being the secretary of the associated student body. She takes care of all the things that the president of the student body leadership wants her to do.

Wilson has been in leadership for her entire high school career. She looks forward to being in the class for her senior year in high school.

“The reason I wanted to become secretary was because I thought it was a chance for me to become more responsible and be held accountable for my actions,” Wilson said. “I also thought it would be really fun to be apart of the student body leadership team. I’m very happy with what student leadership has done this year and I hope to have plenty of more memories for the rest of the year.”

She talks about how leadership has shaped her into a better person in the past few years. Both of the advisors of student leadership have helped her in becoming the person she is now.

“I think leadership has helped me get out of my comfort zone,” Wilson said. “I was able to be more open with not just my friends but with other people around the campus. It has really helped be more on track and get things done on time or even earlier. It gives me the motivation to help others if I know how to more than they do. ”

Wilson wants to be able to stay in leadership for her last year in high school because her friends are going to be in the class as well. It will also help her on the college resume.

Sydney Belmont – Activities Manager

Having her mother Vicky Belmont accompany her in leadership, Sydney Belmont, ‘17, is the general activities manager for associated student body. She is in charge of most of the activities that happen across the campus that the class helps out with.

Belmont is in her last year of high school and decided to join the leadership team to continue to serve at FC. This year she had a specific job of being the activities manager.

“I have always somewhat helped plan out each activity that leadership puts on,” Belmont said. “So taking charge was kind of an expected position for me. In the long run I know that it will help me in many different ways. Learning to work through difficult situations and learning patience will work off later in my life.”

Before entering high school, Belmont had a goal to be a part of leadership for all four years. She felt as if she was led by God to be in leadership for her entire high school career.

“I feel like God has led me to lead in student leadership by connecting with other students,” Belmont said. “In class and outside of I have been given the opportunity to build relationships with kids.

I might not have connected with them before but leadership gives me this stage for me to go out and help people. I am very blessed that God has given me this opportunity and I have tried throughout all of high school to use it in my advantage.”

Belmont wants to graduate FC as a remembered figure. She wants to be an alumna who is remembered as being helpful and grateful for the people around her.

Trevor Trevino – Vice President

Being the captain of the varsity basketball team, Trevor Trevino, ‘17, has also taken a leadership role in the classroom. He is the vice president for associated student body and is in charge of the entire student leadership when the president is not present.

Trevino wanted to become vice president this year because he felt like it would grow him even more as a leader than he already is going into college. He also wanted to stay involved with every activity that would go on around the campus.

“The reason why I ran vice president because I felt like it would get me out of my comfort zone,” Trevino said. “I want to be able to interact from people in third grade all the way up to seniors. Having this high of a position in associated student body made me feel like some people would look up to me and try to get out of their comfort zone as well. I have always wanted to lead by example and this definitely lets me do just that. ”

He emphasizes on how his parents have motivated him throughout doing leadership for all of high school. He also wants to be a role model to his two younger brothers, Reece Trevino, ‘19, and Hayden Trevino, ‘22.

“My parents are glad that I would be taking the position of vice president for associated student body,” Trevino said. “They’re very proud of me being in this spot for leadership. My parents didn’t expect more from me when they already expected great things from me in the first place. They just want me to become a man of christ and keep living life to the fullest through his name.”

His main goal this year to graduate high school and make it into a four-year college. Two of the colleges he is thinking of attending is either Grand Canyon University or Cal Baptist University.

All of these individuals were given this position because their advisors see leadership in them. With their selection at their assigned position, they accepted responsibility. Please take the time to share your suggestions, concerns and thanks as they serve the Eagle community.
