Feather members begin another day at Columbia University, ready to engage with other students and speakers at sessions, March 15.
Today advisers Kori Friesen and Greg Stobbe teach a session to students on the topic, ‘Social Media: Incorporate these powerful tools-CSPA’.
They emphasize the power of social media for news to high school students. In order to make yourself known in the news world, you need to branch out into digital media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Friesen and Stobbe give examples of the correct way to use the accounts for news to the class.
The second conference focuses on the importance of what it takes to have a successful newspaper called, ‘Elements of an Award Winning Team’ taught by Feather editors Mariana Fikse, ‘18, Alexander Rurik, ‘19, and Samuel Cross, ‘19. Each editor speaks about one category that creates a succesfull news team.
Rurik described the delegation of leadership among the students. Fikse went through the process of how organization within in the team benefits a smooth running paper. Cross expresses the importance of communication between editors, photojournalists, video journalists and journalists.
