Grandparents Day 2018

Fresno Christian hosts it’s 27th annual Grandparent’s Day, Sept. 21. With over 500 in attendance, grandparents shadow their student(s) to experience part of their school day.

The event begins with refreshments and time for grandparents to converse with one another. Coffee is provided complimentary of Dutch Bros, and moms bring a variety of snacks and pastries.

After the welcome hour, grandparents go to chapel in the student ministries center to hear from elementary Principal, Katie Reneau, secondary Principal, Amy Deffenbacher, and Superintendent, Jeremy Brown. In chapel, a competition is held to find the grandparent who traveled the furthest for this event. Nilda Mantilla traveled all the way from Peru to attend grandparents day.

After chapel, grandparents get the opportunity to follow alongside their students through part of a school day. Students whose grandparents do not attend, are free to “buddy up” with a friend’s grandparents, or, invite a parent or family friend to spend the morning with.

To conclude the event, students and grandparents get to eat lunch together. This time gives families an opportunity to catch up and spend quality time together, sharing a meal.

Grandparents play an important role in many ways within the FCS community, whether transporting their grandkids to and from school and school related events, or helping to cover the tuition of their family members, students have many reasons to be grateful for their grandparents. Thank you for all those who participated in Grandparents Day 2018!
