Spanish III’s Toledos trip

[/media-credit] Señorita Rachel Rodriguez takes orders from her Spanish III class to prepare them for their trip to Toledos Mexican Restaurant, Oct. 25.

Spanish teacher Rachel Rodriguez prepares her Spanish III class for the second lunch trip to Toledos Mexican Restaurant, Oct. 25. Students practice by gathering around a table, ordering their “meal” from Rodriguez (the acting waitress).

For a project, each student previously brought in a paper plate with printed pictures of food to gain experience speaking Spanish in a different setting than normal.

Rodriguez’s third period class will leave, Oct. 31, and sixth period, Nov. 1 for the lunch trip. The trip will be graded as an oral exam and students will be scored based on their ability to use correct grammar and vocabulary.

From the time they enter the restaurant to the time they leave, students can only speak in Spanish. Every member of the class has been assigned a question to ask once they enter the restaurant from requesting a table to asking for the bill at the end of lunch.

This will be Rodriguez’s second year taking her Spanish III class to Toledos. Rodriguez shares her goal for her students as they practice before the outing.

“My hope in having my students practice is for them to gain confidence in speaking Spanish outside of a classroom setting,” Rodriguez said. “I also want them to gain Spanish fluency in a restaurant setting.”
