Daylight Saving Time

Daylight+Saving+Time
[/media-credit] Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 4.

This Sunday, at 2 a.m., Daylight Saving Time (DST) will end, Nov. 4. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour.

There is some speculation on the matter of who invented DST. Benjamin Franklin was the first to have the idea of DST in 1784. He acknowledged that something should be done differently so the light of the sun would not be wasted. However Germany, was the reason DST gained momentum in 1916 in the early years of WWI. Since then, 70 countries have begun to use DST.

Here are some daylight saving time fun facts:

The first time DST was widely used was in WWI.

People often say ‘daylight savings time’ when the actual name is ‘daylight saving time’.

During WWII DST was called war time.

In Sept. of 1999 a terrorist attack was thwarted by DST. Because the terrorists failed to realize there was a time change, their bomb went off too early killing three of their own instead of the intended victims.

DST was not actually created to help farmers as many people believe.

Arizona and Hawaii along with some Navajo reservations, do not observe DST.
