In honor of Veterans Day, a UH-60L Blackhawk lands on the FC field during first period, Nov. 9.K-12 students watched on the north field to observe and interact with the aircraft and pilots for two hours.
The UH-60L Blackhawk, UH (standing for utility helicopter), was built in 2000. This specific aircraft’s facility most recently assisted in the wildfires in California, but is equipped to perform missions for flood, fire and earthquakes.
Blackhawk is a two-pilot aircraft and can be flown from either the left or right seat. The back can sit 11 soldiers to transport around battlefield, or carry cargo with the back seats removed.
LTC Shiloh Briggs is the pilot in command for this flight, serving in the Army for almost 20 years. Other members of the flight include CPT Joe Gentry, who is a pilot and has been in the Army over 14 years, SSG Ge Xiong, who is crew chief and has been in the Army over 14 years, and SGT Thomas Hernandez, who has been in the Army over seven years.
High school students return to their classrooms while elementary explores the inside of the Blackhawk. They experience what it would be like to sit inside one of these machines.
