Zamarripa surpasses school record

[/media-credit] Senior girls basketball captain Ashley Zamarripa scores nine out of 11 three point shots against Riverdale, surpassing the school record for girls basketball, Jan. 23.

Senior girls basketball captain Ashley Zamarripa beats the school record for three pointer shots scored in a girls basketball game and ties boys basketball record, Jan. 23. At their away game against Riverdale HS, she made nine out of 11 three-pointer shot.

Varsity girls basketball brings home a win from their away game at Riverdale, 52-28, with the assistance of the team captain‘s nine three-pointer shots.

Zamarripa was initially excited when she realized she tied the school record, and looks to attempt at surpassing the current record.

“During the game I wasn’t really paying attention to how many I was making,” Zamarripa said. “My dad told me if I made three more then I would tie the record so I attempted it. I was excited that I tied it but I was disappointed that it wasn’t a league game. I mean of course it would be cool to break the record but I don’t know if I could do that. Yes this was probably the most exciting thing that has happened to far this season because I get lucky if I get 3 three-pointers in a game.”

Thank you to the FC Athletics Twitter feed for featuring senior Ashley Zamarripa as she breaks the school record for most three-pointers scored in a girls basketball game, Jan. 23.

She is currently tied with alumnus Tyler Breedlove, ’16, for boys basketball school record for three-pointers

Girls basketball head coach Robert Foshee felt pride in Zamarripa for her accomplishment.

“It was pretty special,” Foshee said. “To make nine three-pointers in a game, you have to hit a high percentage of your shots and you need all your teammates to play good offense and find you when your open.  It was definitely a team effort. I was most proud with Ashley breaking the record because lately she had been not been hitting her shots and been in a mini slump, but she kept diligent and she was paid off with an amazing game. I think she could also beat the boys record. She one of our toughest players.  She fights through injuries and bigger players and always comes ready to compete and play.”

Come out and watch varsity girls basketball team at their next home game against Alpaugh, Jan. 25, at 5:45 p.m.
