Fresno Christian will be hosting the fourth annual Valentines concert in the Student Ministries Center at 7 p.m., Feb. 9. The concert offers a wide variety of music ranging from love to breakup songs. This event also gives members of the FC Cantiamo choir and Bellezza ensemble the chance to individually showcase their talents.

Senior Macie Thompson, four-year participant, sees this as an opportunity to hear her fellow classmates sing at the performance.

“At the Valentines concert this year, I am most excited for all of the different songs people will be singing,” Thompson said. “I love how there are different genres and I’m really excited to watch them all perform! I think that singing in the past three Valentines concerts have definitely helped me to gain a lot of confidence! The first year I was very timid and was very nervous, but this year I am very excited and can’t wait to sing and have a good time.”

Choir director and creator of this event Susan Ainley loves that each of her students has the chance to showcase their talents at the Valentines concert.

“The Valentines concert was originally an ensemble only event, but has grown to include men and women from both HS choirs,” Ainley said. “My hope for this concert is always the same. To give students a chance to sing solos and duets that will help them grow in their musicianship, but to also have a great time singing something other than choral music.

“This is a concert, not a talent show, so performers will present their music in a more formal setting,” Ainley Continued. “We set up round tables, decorations in a Valentine theme, and serve cheesecake by candlelight. The concert is free, but we do accept donations toward our festival trip in April. This is our gift of love and appreciation to the FC community.”

Come out to the SMC and join the FC music departments’ celebration of love and friendship at 7 p.m., Feb. 9. There are no fees for admission but donations to the FC music department would be greatly appreciated.
