Gender stereotypes skit

[/media-credit] AP Language and Composition split into two groups to embody stereotypes about the opposite sex to end the gender unit, Feb. 13.

Andrea Donaghe’s first period AP Language and Composition class participates in a gender stereotypes skit to go along with their unit ‘Gender’, Feb. 13.

To illustrate these stereotypes, boys and girls were split apart into two separate groups. Each group embodied common misconceptions about the opposite sex. The goal of this assignment is to show students that there is always room for growth. In addition, this activity points out flaws of each gender in a way that is different from sitting and taking notes in a classroom.

Junior Blake Burdan uses AP courses as a way to further his knowledge in writing.

“I really enjoyed engaging and interacting with my classmates in a funny skit,” Burdan said. “Through this unit, I learned that many stereotypes are wrong and many people have different perceptions of things. I’m looking forward to our next unit where we’ll be studying science from a broad perspective. In addition, I’m excited to be learning new things that will help to further my knowledge of writing.”

The next unit the class will be studying incorporates science and genetics as they discuss the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. The students are currently reading the book but will dig deeper into the subject after the completion of the ‘Gender’ unit.
