National Scholastic Journalism Week highlights volunteer opportunities with this year’s theme, ‘Dedicated to Our Communities’. As voices of the FC student body, Feather staffers cover opportunities to volunteer around our community.
Many of this week’s featured locations have been supported by FC Serve Day in past years. This spotlight is dedicated towards service opportunities available at Habitat for Humanity.
For 33 years Habitat for Humanity has improved living conditions for over 700 families through the work of over 20,000 volunteers in Fresno alone. They plan to continue this mission by constructing homes throughout our communities through their Neighborhood Revitalization program.
The mission statement of Habitat-for-Humanity is to “demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ” not only by words but by actions.
On their website, they specifically cite Micah 6:8 which explains what God asks of us as Christians. It states, “He has shown you, oh man, what is good and what the Lord requires of you. But to act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
For this non-profit, it is all about loving communities by helping in tangible ways.

Other than volunteering there are several ways you can get involved in this mission. They also take donations through their website.
