Winter guard places first

[/media-credit] Congratulations to the FC winter guard team for receiving first place at the WGI Competition, March 10.

FC winter guard places first at the WGI (Winter Guard Invitational) Competition, March 10.

The team placed first in the Bronze Division, which is new territory for FC. The Bronze Division is a higher level than that of previous competitions FC has been a part of. Top level winter guard teams from around California faced off at the WGI Competition.

The goal of the competition was to be recognized by top level judges and receive inspiration from the advanced teams they were competing against.

Shauna Howard, ’20, was overjoyed after hearing FC’s name called out for first place at the team’s recent competition.

“I was really excited for my team since this is the first time we’ve placed first,” Howard said. “I was expecting us to do well and be on par with the other teams, but I wasn’t expecting to place very high. We were there mostly to observe the upper division teams. This was one of our best runs of the show and we had to learn a lot in a short amount of time. We were also down two members for this competition so we had to adjust the routine. I feel the performance went very well. We were all together and performed well; there was only one drop. ”

The team is led by coaches Alicia Gonzales and Michelle Rodriguez. They have been preparing for this years’ winter guard season since the beginning of 2018-19 school year.

Winter guard’s last competition is at Clovis North, beginning at 1:55 p.m., March 30. Head out and cheer on your Eagles!
