Adalyn Richardson ’21 joins the trend of Birkenstocks for the spring season, April 4.

Birkenstocks become more popular, first becoming trendy in the ’90s. Birkenstock Orthopädie GmbH & Co. KG is a shoe manufacturing headquarters located in Neustadt, Germany and founded in 1774.

The company sells Birkenstocks as well as other shoes with cork and rubber soles. The materials mold to the wearers’ feet.

Birkenstocks are available in 47 different styles and 15 different colors. The shoes are also available in water friendly styles, price ranging from $30-350.

Sophomore Adalyn Richardson received a pair of the shoes from a friend, which sparked a love for the shoe.

“I think Birkenstocks are a style and trending,” Richardson said. “I first got them from a friend for my birthday one year and since then I have purchased 3 other pairs. I like how you can wear them with just about anything and they are super comfortable.”

Nearly 20 million pairs of Birkenstocks have been sold this year according to The New Yorker.

In Fresno, Birkenstocks are sold in many places. They are available at Roxanne’s Birkenstocks, Village Shoes, Designer Shoe Warehouse, Macy’s, Dicks Sporting Goods and Nordstrom Rack.
