Bringing back softball

Bringing+back+softball

As sports seasons start to open up for the first time since COVID-19, Fresno Christian softball preps for a hopeful season, March 9.

As softball was unable to have a season last year due to COVID-19, Makayla Davila, ‘22, team captain and daughter of coach, David Davila, shares how she thinks the team has come back.

“I think since COVID took softball away from us last year,” Davila said, “we now appreciate this season more than ever and won’t take it for granted.”

Davila has played softball since she was three years old and has never stopped. She plans to play in college if it is God’s will.

“I feel I have to lead with an attitude of the Spirit and effort so I won’t fail my girls,” Davila continues, “but this also helps me become a better player myself and motivates me to be the best leader I can.”

Joelie Hull, ’21, is the only senior on this year’s softball team. Hull has played since elementary school and she was taught by her mom, Dannelle Hull.

“I started playing softball because of my mom’s love for the sport,” Hull said. “I soon learned to love it myself.”

Coach, David Davila, began coaching Hull four years ago when she joined the Fresno Christian team. Davila is going on his fifth year coaching the campus softball and does not plan to stop. Hull plans to continue her softball career in college with a club team.

When Hull is not on the field with her team, she can be found skateboarding with friends or enjoying her anatomy physiology class.

“My favorite class in high school would have to be anatomy philosophy,” Hull continues, “because I believe my future career will involve similar studies.”

The first FC softball game is away against Caruthers, March 24. Go out and support our Eagles!
