Fresno’s historic Tower Theatre takes a journey back in time to the 1940s by presenting In the Mood: a 1940 musical revue. This show is a tribute to Big Band music from the 1940s, which includes renditions of music from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, the Andrews Sisters and many more.

The show will be playing at the Tower Theatre with two shows at 3 and 7:30 p.m., March 24. It will also be at the Hanford Fox Theatre, March 19.

The Tower Theatre is located on 815 East Olive Ave, Fresno. Ticket prices will range from $29 to $49 and there are discounts for groups. A group with a party of eight or more will have $5 off while a group of 16 or more will have $10 off. Tickets can be ordered online at or by phone at 559.485.9050.

The Tower Theatre originally opened in 1939 and was made with an art deco theme, such as the era as this production. Since then, it has been placed on the National Register for Historic Places and was restored in 1990.

The music of this era was much different than that of now, with upbeat tones and a carried patriot sense to ready Americans for the second World War. This served as music to a generation going through a world war and coming out of the Great Depression. But the tunes are still positive and hopeful.

Dancing too was much different, being that swing dancing was king, which will also be featured in this production.

The title “In the Mood” was the title of a song by Glenn Miller, whose music will be featured in the show. Miller was a bandleader in the forties and preformed many songs that were popular from that era such as “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “String of Pearls” and “Moonlight Serenade.”

The music from the Andrews Sisters will be featured who sang the famous song “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.” This was an example of a song preparing for the coming war and striking patriotism in the hearts of the American public.
