[/media-credit] Seniors strike a pose in celebration of their first official night rally, Aug. 21.

The beginning of this year started off with numerous changes, different teachers, new eating locations, a new paint job, and new carpet. Along with these alterations by  faculty and staff, leadership students planned to bring back an event to increase school spirits.

On the first Friday of the school year, the leadership class asked students to arrive at 6:30 p.m. at the FC Gym for a Night Rally. The theme was neon, students arrived dressed up like highlighters with glow sticks strewn all over their bodies.

The gym doors opened and music blasted into the foyer. For the rest of the night, students participated in games, listened to music, and as an ending game, played Kajabi-can-can outside. At the end the, juniors placed first in the rally and won a pizza party.

Macie Thompson, ’19, loved this type of rally, especially since her past experiences were from junior high.

“The Night Rally was a lot better than the junior high rallies,” Thompson said. “Just the intensity inside the gym, and the loud music made it a ton of fun. Especially Kajabi, that game is one of my favorites, and I enjoyed being able to play it again.”

Sophomore Josh Villa was pleased with the rally but thought it could have involved the students a bit more.

“I had a really fun time with my friends,” Villa said. “I made memories that will last a long time. There were a couple things I thought could be better, the involvement of students wasn’t that good. I felt that many of us were just standing around not doing anything so kids were either really involved or not involved at all.”

Junior Marissa Parker thought it was a good idea for the school to bring back night rallies.

“The revival of the night rally made me really excited,” Parker said. “I had a great time during this rally, the colors were vibrant and everyone was really hyped during the activities. My friends and I really bonded in the short time we had. The night rally created a lot of fun memories.”

Morgan Miller, ’16, enjoyed the rally and how it was different than the ones in years past.

“I had a great time at all of the activities,” Miller said. “The neon theme was a good change up from the usually rallies. Also, because it was at night, we got to hang out with our friends and maybe go out to other events. It was fun being able to dress up and hopefully they could do it again maybe at midnight.”

ASB President Timothy Nyberg, ’16, was pleased with the outcome of the event and hopes to have another in the future.

“I think the night rally was a great success considering it was our very first time doing an event like this,” Nyberg said. “I was very happy with the outcome and It was cool to see the classes working together and having a great time. The night was a big success and we hope to plan another one in the future.”

Leadership adviser Vicky Belmont thought the evening was a success and she was pleased with the overall attendance.

“The rally went over really well,” Belmont said. “It was the first time we had ever done a night rally and it went over great. Because of this I think their is a major possibility that it will happen again. Overall we had a great turn out, each class had a sizable amount of people, hopefully if we do it again, we will get a similar, if not better turn out later on in the year.”
