For the second year in a row Fresno Christian hosts the Eagle Freedom Classic boys volleyball tournament, March 25. From 8 AM to 2:30 PM, eleven teams will play in the FC Gym in bracket play after pool games to determine the winner.
With the volleyball season in full force, the team has a record of 23-6. The team is currently ranked fourth in Division 1 as well as top 50 in California.
Team captain Cooper Saelzler, ‘23, shares how the team has grown in skill and teamwork.
“The season has been awesome so far. It’s been great to see everyone grow as a team and to have fun as a team outside of volleyball as well as on the court,” Saelzler said. “At the start of the year our chemistry wasn’t the best and we were at a low level of skill but with training and practice we have grown together and our mindset has changed.”
Head coach Steven Gugliemana started coaching volleyball in 1987. He coaches school and club teams for both boys and girls. He hopes to continue growing the program by giving underclassmen opportunities to gain experience in games.
“This is the second annual Eagle freedom classic,” Gugliemana said. “A portion of the proceeds go to Operation Heal Our Patriots which is a Christian Organization that assists veterans while also exposing them to God and his word.”
Don’t forget to come out and support your boy’s volleyball team this Saturday!
