The Fresno Christian 2024-25 girls varsity volleyball team starts off the season strong, riding on their 38-11 record from the previous year. The team has lost around half their varsity players since last season, but they show the determination required to win Valley Championships for the third year in a row and the possibility of going even further into State Playoffs.
Varsity coach Steve Guglielmana expresses his excitement for this year’s team and season, after winning their game against Exeter High School, the team who defeated them last season, Guglielmana stays humble.
“We want to honor Christ first no matter the outcome of the game or the score,” Steve Guglielmana said. “This is for them; it is their season.”
The hype and excitement is strong for the players and coaches. Varsity player Sarah Guglielmana, ‘26, is playing for her third consecutive high school year and could not be more enthusiastic. She brings up memories of the previous season, determined to get there again.
“Once the ball hits the floor and the play is over, everything feels so surreal,” Sarah Guglielmana says. “All that grind we did the whole season shows… This is what it’s for.”
The JV team prepares for their season with first-year coach, Synovia Wold. She is excited about the learning opportunities that will be presented to the team. Wold shares her favorite part of coaching volleyball.
“Watching the girls finally get something they have been working on,” Wold says. “Seeing it finally click because it only takes once.”
To achieve chemistry on the court, the girls make it a priority to spend time together. They train hard and build strong bonds through team exercises, team dinners, and group prayer. The players build each other up and always make sure to support each other, no matter the challenge.
Make sure to come out and support your lady eagles at their next match against Sanger High, Sept. 12th.
