Rosik displays determination with girls soccer

Learning to play any sport has various challenges that are also learning experiences to help an athlete grow. A determined player can be crucial in helping team-mates have a positive attitude.

If even one player knows the ins and outs of their role on the team, it can make all the difference of winning and losing throughout the season. Julianna Rosik, a senior on the FC varsity girls soccer team hopes to see the team finish off the season strong.

As one of the few seniors on the team, Rosik hopes to portray a good attitude and to play hard as an example to her fellow soccer mates. Playing soccer throughout high school, Rosik plans on putting it aside to place more of an emphasis on studies in college.

Rosik has had a long history with soccer that began in kindergarten. This passion was encouraged by Rosik’s father, who encouraged both Julianna and her sister to play.

Rosik feels that having someone with an encouraging and motivating attitude will help any team play hard, and therefore grow to love that sport.

Team Coach Archie Ochoa, in his first year of coaching FC girls soccer, believes Rosik contributes to the team by expressing great examples through following his coaching. He also notes she is always willing to help the team better themselves.

“Julianna is a strong individual player and can play multiple positions to the best of her ability,” Ochoa said. “Her skill level has her playing hard and contributing always at 100%. I strongly do believe that the team does benefit from Julianna’s attitude due to her being a team captain and her ability to express her feeling and show her skills. Overall Julianna performs her skills and talents to the best of her ability both on and off the field.”

One of the team’s goalies, Cayla Rivas, ’18, benefits from the encouraging attitude that Rosik depicts. Rivas especially appreciates the leadership from Rosik being captain, and knows that she can follow her example without question.

“This is my second year on the team,” Rivas said. “When I first came to the team last year I didn’t really know what to expect that much in high school soccer. Watching Julianna and learning from her example has encouraged me to try harder to become better as well. Julianna is someone who I would always hope to play with on any sports team, because encouragement and setting a good example is a huge asset for any team to be successful.”

A first year player on the team, Julie Donis, ’17, says that without the help and guidance of Julianna she wouldn’t know what to expect going into playing soccer. She also adds how Julianna brings the girls closer together as a team.

“I knew playing soccer would be something completely new to me, and I didn’t quite know what to expect,” Donis said. “When we had the first few practices I got to know Julianna a little better than I had before. Ever since then during games she has motivated me and made me want to play to win, and I think that’s what all sports teams need.”
