The week of March 7 – March 12 the boys tennis team competed in three competitions. The team faced Dos Palos and Fowler in league matchups and Coast Union in a non-league matchup. The team travelled to Dos Palos, Tues. March 8 and also went to Fowler, Thurs. March 10. The boys had their first home game Saturday against Coast Union.

The first game of the week was Dos Palos and the boys looked to continue their win streak. They had high hopes and confidence while traveling to Dos Palos. When the match began, all started well for the Eagles who won their first four singles games. After the courts were not filled up, no. 5 singles, Nevan Gonzalez, ‘17, and no. 6 singles, Will Liao, ‘16, won their games as well. The Eagles had already won the match without playing any doubles games. Senior Andrew Moore and junior Zach Passmore won their no. 1 doubles game. Julian Castro, ‘17, and John Monke, ‘19, played a close no. 2 doubles game as new partners but ultimately lost. Also, a lack of players caused the Eagles to forfeit the no. 3 doubles game. The Eagles won 7-2.

Traveling to Fowler the boys knew they had a tough opponent up against them. However, their spirits were not shaken and they still fought hard and tried to win the match. Each game played came very close in score but the Redcats were able to turn the tables and take a win over the Eagles. The Redcats won the match 6-3 over the Eagles.

The last game of the week was the first home game for the Eagles and they were excited to finally be on their home court. Last year the match against Coast Union was close so the boys knew they had to fight hard for this one. With some of the Eagles playing well and some Coast Union players playing well, the score was very even. The Eagles lost the match 6-3 but the game was a non-league matchup so it does not affect the Eagles league record.

Despite the loss junior Nick LeBlanc is still hopeful for his team and the season. He realizes what the team needs to do to get back on top.

“I think we have to fix the little things ourselves,” LeBlanc said. ” Most times we hurt ourselves by hitting shots out or into the net. If we fix these things I think we can recover and make another push towards league title.”

The Eagles are now 3-1 in league and will play Riverdale and Firebaugh. Both games will be played at home for the Eagles.
