World of Sports: Reigning champs off to a hot start

NBA season kicks off, Westbrook starts strong

The 2016-2017 NBA season kicked off with a bang by having the Spurs play the newly dubbed super team on opening night. However, the Golden State Warriors seemed lackadaisical on defense. Kevin Durant’s new team lost by 20 on opening night in a disappointing showing to Kawhi  Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs.

The reigning champion Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten off to a hot start behind Lebron James and Kyrie Irving. They barely snuck in a win over the Toronto Raptors winning, 94-91, over the second place team in the East from last season. Also James has endorsed Irving as a MVP candidate.

Durant’s old teammate Russell Westbrook has lived up to his potential MVP  hype. He has got the Thunder firing on all cylinders. They are 4-0 and Westbrook has had a triple-double in all 3 games. Plus they have got their big three of the future locked up long term with Victor Oladipo and Steven Adams both getting huge contract extensions. Next they need to secure their best player, Westbrook.

Philadelphia is once again in a losing spot without the number 1 overall pick Ben Simmons being on the court. However, they do have a lone bright spot in Joel Embiid finally being cleared to play and playing very well. I think everyone expects them to trade either Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel so we will see what comes via trade.

Wizards v/s Bulls 02/28/11
[/media-credit] Derrick Rose was traded to the New York Knicks over the offseason to be the new point guard of the franchise.

The Clippers look solid as usual but still lack a good wing player. They keep bringing in old wing players to just fill the roll and they continue to get ousted in the first round of the playoffs.

The newly constructed New York Knicks the self dubbed super team as Derrick Rose calls them. They are off to a laughable 1-3. However their games have been close and they should be fun to watch every time they play.

Tonight the potential game of the year will be occurring. The Thunder will be taking on the Warriors in the first matchup between Westbrook and Durant. This will be interesting to watch as the Warriors have not looked as dominant as the Thunder. In the end I believe that the Warriors will win but it would not be shocking to see the Thunder take this one. Going forward into the season this will be the series that every NBA fan will crave.

If the NBA continues these exciting games with high scores and lots of exciting dunks this season will not disappoint.
