The Baja 1000 is one of the largest off-road events in the world. Racers come from all over the world to Baja California to race on the 840 mile loop. This is an event for fans of trophy trucks, quads, and motorcycles. The race takes place Nov. 16-20. It includes four days or racing as riders have to make it to the checkpoint before getting to go to sleep.
Over 1,000 riders come from around the world to race, and FC is involved in the race. Craig Thompson, father of Macie Thompson, ’19, is going to be at the race. His company, SRT off-road has racers participating. SRT riders will be racing against over 1,000 different riders from as far as China.
Thompson will be riding a portion of the race. His family will be at home following along on the online tracking system.
“We can only listen to the radios to see the team is doing while the race is going on,” Thompson said. “Friends and family back home actually have an advantage on race day to see the progress of the team as they can track each team on the computer. The tracking is not live, but is within 2-4 minutes of our last known position on the race course. This allows family members to track our progress and see how each team was doing.”
There are several different types of vehicles that will be traveling the course. Each class of vehicles will have their own individual winners. SRT will be placed in the motorcycle grouping.
The Baja 1000 can be watched online at Red Bull TV. They will be only covering the Baja 1000 each of the next 4 days as the riders will be speeding around the course.
