New addition to the MCU brings humor
Many people remember Guardians of the Galaxy, the first installment in The Guardians of the Galaxy series. It received praise from many critics for its witty humor.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 focuses on the Guardians, a ragtag collection of rogue-like heroes. Star Lord, aka Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is the leader of the group, Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) a wise-cracking genius, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) a serious lethal assassin, Groot (Vin Diesel) an adorable baby tree-like creature and Drax (Dave Bautista) a warrior who has a very low social IQ.
Something special about this movie was how they did not only give the backstory to Peter Quill, but they also started to poke at Rocket Raccoon towards the end of the movie. This made it easy to set up for his backstory if they wish to later on.
The movie picks up quickly with action taking place almost immediately at the start of the movie. I enjoyed that the movie did not have many slow parts and that it was able to keep the audience engaged most of the time.
The best part of this movie was the comedy. I would consider this to be more of a comedy than a superhero movie. This movie had comedy for all ages. Some of it was geared towards a more mature audience, but it still maintained a balance.

The comedy also made it so that some of the darker scenes were not as heavy as they would have been. The idea to break up the heavy parts with humor could have backfired, but they did a good job making sure that it would not happen.
The plot was rather confusing at times, and I found myself becoming lost. In addition to this, the movie also had some moments that could have been pretty dark but were dulled by the addition of comedy. While this movie is hilarious, it also has some elements that some parents may not want their children to see as this movie is rated PG-13.
Video editor for the Feather, Clark Zhu ‘17, enjoyed the humor that Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 presented.
“Overall, I enjoyed the film,” Zhu said. “I think the movie is very funny, probably the funniest one Marvel has ever produced. The plot progresses with lots of humor and jokes, and I like the way James Gunn [the director] pulled it off. Apart from the humor, Guardians 2 is very serious to some degree, as it explores the theme ‘father and son.’ A father is not necessarily the one who gives life but also the one who spends time with you and raise you up.”

I loved this movie!!! I loved the first one too! I felt that the second film fell short of the amazement I felt with the first one. The second felt a little off, I could quite put my finger on what it was, but it didn’t feel right. Over all a great film.
