Incoming coach brings higher expectations

Previous volleyball coach Katie Reneau stepped down this summer and handed the baton off to new head director of the girl’s volleyball team, Kit Maddox. Along with his father Larry Maddox, a former Olympic trainer, the father and son duo are hoping to build a winning foundation for years to come.

Kit looks forward to building a community among the team while also improving their skills for the upcoming season.

“I have always liked the mix of God and volleyball at Fresno Christian,” Kit said. “When the opportunity came up and I was available, I was super excited to get involved. The most important goal for us is personal growth and community.”

“We have a great group of girls who all get along and have so much fun together,” Kit continued. “We play to improve. If we improve every day then the growth at the end of the season will be amazing. Our sights are set towards getting into the playoffs and winning a couple games.”

With her teammates by her side, senior captain McKensy Neal is looking forward to what the season has in store for her. She hopes the team can finish above a .500 average this year.

“I’m glad I came back to play volleyball this year,” Neal said. “The reason why I came back was because I had so much fun last year and it was also something to do after school. I am looking forward to bonding with the team and hopefully making it to playoffs and then the championship game. It’s going to take some time to get used to a new coach but so far it has been really good. My first impression of coach Maddox was that he seemed nice and was really good at volleyball.”

With a number of players coming back from the previous season, the volleyball team will make sure to help the incoming freshmen who will be playing on junior varsity this year.

Maddox hopes to see the J.V. team develop into exceptional players and be prepped for varsity by next year.

“It’s nice seeing our J.V. team also improve on a daily basis,” Maddox said. “The personalities, positivity and fun that we have already had has been so awesome to see! I think by the end of the of the year, the stories that we will be able to share will be priceless.”

The Lady Eagles have started off the season with a record of 4-3. Their next home game is on Friday vs rivals Kings Christian as FC hosts a Round Robin Tournament. Come out and support your Lady Eagles with games from noon to 5 p.m!
