Campus to pilot Glow Run during Apex Fun Run

TKs through sixth graders prepare for excitement as they anticipate the third annual Apex Fun Run. Students come together to learn character lessons and win various prizes in their classrooms as they await the glow-in-the-dark themed Fun Run, Jan. 18.

Apex Fun Run crew arrived on campus, Jan. 8, visiting classrooms and teaching core values to the students. They emphasize the acronym UNITED, which stands for being unique, no excuses, inspiring others, being teachable, empathizing and doing their best. Evan Crayton, an Apex staff member, believes that lessons on character help kids to become better students, athletes, and individuals.

“I’ve been to Fresno Christian twice with the Apex Fun Run,” Crayton said. “They get to be the pilot school that gets to do our glow-in-the-dark Fun Run. They’ll have bracelets, necklaces, black lights, and glow paint as they run. The biggest thing for me is the character lessons. I like going into the classrooms and teaching kids how to become better students and overall better people. It’s a job that is very rewarding each day that I’m apart of it.”

Students raise money by collecting donations for every lap they run. Students are rewarded based on how much money they raise. The proceeds from the event go towards Parent Teacher Fellowship, which helps teachers purchase needed equipment and supporting other school needs.

Students are not the only ones to participate in the Fun-Run event. Teachers collect donations alongside their students to support the school fundraiser. Fourth-grade teacher Matthew Weimer enjoys participating in the Fun Run each year and watching his students embrace the character lessons.

“I really like the Fun Run and run my heart out each year,” Weimer said. “I think some of the same messages the students have been learning at home, church and school are reinforced as positive character traits and emphasized each day the crew members visit. Their labor bears fruit they can taste. I appreciate that it is an event that we can participate in together.”

The Apex Fun Run staff visits the elementary classrooms every day, playing games and sharing lessons. Students, teachers and parents will come together to run laps around the FC gym, celebrating the effort put into the fundraiser, Jan. 18.
