Movie Pass offers unique features for movie goers

App changing the way people go to theaters

[/media-credit] The Movie Pass app is a bargain for avid movie goers.

This year looks like a great year for movies with blockbusters like Marvel’s Infinity Wars and the new Star Wars Han Solo movie coming out. However, while these movies may cause excitement and be fun to go to, they can be expensive.

This may not seem like much; however, if you see two or three movies it can add up. Add in other expenses like popcorn and the price is even higher. There is a solution to this; an app called Movie Pass allows movie goers a cheaper way to get access to the movies.

The way the app works is that it allows you to go to one movie every day for as long as you have the service. The cost is $9.95 a month, roughly the cost of one movie ticket. With this in mind, watching two movies with this app means that the customer has made back their money.

The app allows moviegoers to see any standard movie (no Imax or 3D) any day of the week. It even works on premieres, provided of course that you get there on time.

Movie Pass holder and campus alumnus Will Vander Kooi, ’17, shared his opinion of this service.

“The biggest advantage of using MoviePass is the price,” Vander Kooi said. “With it, I’ve seen movies I wouldn’t have normally paid to see. My favorite part about the service is how simple it is to use. All I have to do is pay the subscription fee each month and they take care of the ticket part, so when I get to the theater, all it takes is a couple taps to pay.

“The customer service for MoviePass is very lacking,” Vander Kooi continued. “I tried contacting them through the app once when I had an issue, and I didn’t get a response. The other thing I don’t like is that on weekends when a lot of people are using the app, it can be slow or unresponsive.”

Yet, he potential savings with this service have a massive potential, especially if you are an active moviegoer. For even greater savings there is a deal for $89.95 a year, this is roughly the price of 10 movies but it would allow the holder to see a movie every day of the year.

With such a large amount of potential savings, it sounds like there must be some drawback or cache and there is. The main drawback of this app would be its reliability. In fact, it is rated as 2.7 on the Google Play Store and a 3.5 on the App Store.

[/media-credit] Although some report issues with the app, a majority of the reviews are positive.

One of the major issues that customers had was that the app had a tendency to be buggy and was said to have problems displaying the ticket. Another issue would be the customer service which described a poor.

This led to problems in getting tickets at the theater, which could mean being stuck at the theater without a ticket.

Despite this drawback, I believe that this service is still a good buy as it has a large potential for saving money.
