Latest Marvel hit breaks records at box office

Most people have either seen or heard of a Marvel movie, whether it is Captain America: Civil War or Black Panther, a lot of people have at least heard of these movies. This is one of the reasons why Marvel’s Infinity War became so popular: this movie is the culmination of over a decade of build-up, including 18 movies.

The box office also reflects this. According to Vox, Infinity War had the biggest opening weekend of any movie ever bringing $250 million domestic and $630 million worldwide.

This alone speaks to the anticipation surrounding this movie, however, the real question is, did the movie live up to the hype?

To an extent, it does. The movie is very well put together considering all the aspects and moving parts that went into it. In the movie, the various heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe race to stop Thanos, a titan with immense power, from collecting all the Infinity Stones, which are extremely powerful stones that hold influence over a specific aspect of the universe, such as time, power and reality.

Being the culmination of years of movies, this movie had a lot of history to incorporate into the plot. With this came the backstories and motivations of those movies. This left a large amount of information to squeeze into a relatively small space. This being said, it was also important to give some of the backstories for reference, as some viewers have either never seen a Marvel movie or just do not remember all the details.

Thankfully, this aspect of the movie was quite well done. While the movie would still not make as much sense to one who had not seen all the previous movies, it had enough backstory to help viewers see what was going on. Although watching the movies preceding this one improve the experience greatly as they give context to the story and allow the viewer to enjoy many of the inside jokes.

The acting in this move was excellent and sported a star studded cast including many familiar actors such as Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. These actors kept the plot moving with their great acting skills and helped to give the story more depth.

As for the overall plot, I thought it was quite good. It had enough twists and turns to keep me on guard but still upheld some of my expectations. I also enjoyed how the plot introduced new items into the plot, this made the movie feel fresh and made it harder for me to predict what would happen.

However, something that I felt weakened the plot was that the movie was split into multiple tangents that switched back and forth. This made the movie harder to follow because of all the things that were going on. Another thing that I disliked about this movie would be its use of “nanotechnology”, which I feel was a rather cheap mechanic to use in a movie like this.

Another point would be that the movie ends on a cliff hanger. This casts a shadow on the movie and while it promises to be resolved in later movies it still makes the movie less enjoyable.

Despite this, I would definitely urge people to go to this movie. It is very entertaining and ties the series together quite nicely. Even if you are not a fan of Marvel this movie is still great at face value and is relevant to pop culture.
