ASB President shares leadership team goals

Senior Jacob Hyatt is the president of the campus Associated Student Body leadership. In this opinion piece, Hyatt shares as part of an occasional column series. ASB officers offer their opinions from their leadership class. For a previous post, read COLUMN: Student Body President encourages community to find joy, preserve by 2020 student body president Braden Bell.

Throughout the first semester of our 2020-2021 school year we went through the transition from online school to in-person. We were given the unique opportunity to be one of the only schools open in the Valley amid this pandemic. Through this transition we were guaranteed a school year unlike any other.

[/media-credit] The 2020-21 Associated Student Body team’s plans events such as formal, spirit weeks and food drives.

Several events and sports were suspended to spring semester or cancelled all together. Throughout these unique times the leadership team continued to work despite these challenges. As a team we decided that just because this school year was different we would not stop putting on events.

As a leadership team we chose to use the acronym L.E.A.D., meaning Love, Encourage, Answer, and Do. Love one another. Encourage one another. Answer for the hope you have and any questions, and Do what God says because without works faith is dead.

As a leadership team we strive to lead using all four of these attributes. Loving our student body, encouraging them throughout the school year, answering any questions they have, and working to improve their school year.

Despite the unique challenges of this school year we will grow as a community and continue to promote unity in a time of social distancing.

This truly has been quite the interesting year. I hope that things continue to open up as we try our hardest to head back to some sort of normal.
