For the first time in Fresno Christian’s 29-year history, the football program opens the season in a professional, high venue environment. The Eagles host their rival Immanuel at Grizzlies Stadium on Aug. 29 in their season opener, renewing their intense 13-year rivalry.

“Playing against Immanuel in Grizzlies Stadium not only gives our football team exposure but our school as well,” Jon Hall, head coach, said. “It is a very important game because we want to start out the season strong but also avenge our loss to them in last years’ playoffs.”

The Eagles, who defeated Immanuel 18-13 in a preseason game on Aug. 30. 2002, were beaten 21-16 in last years’ Sierra Division semifinals, ending their season. The team is out for revenge, according to quarterback Seth Fisher, ’04.

“We are definitely inspired to win, especially after last years’ loss,” Fisher said. “If we execute our game plan and play hard, we will win. This is my last chance to play Immanuel and I really want to leave with a victory.”

Fisher is the fourth member of his family to play football on campus, following his brothers Luke, Jake and Sam. The Fisher’s legacy has spanned 9 years, beginning with Luke in 1995. According to Principal Gary Schultz, the Fisher family has shown great dedication to campus sports.

“The Fisher family has sent five children to our school,” Schultz said, “that alone shows their commitment as a family to giving their children a Christian education. Suzie and Mark have done a great job aiding their kids’ sports ambitions and demonstrating dedication through their children’s participation.”

According to Tyler Wiebe, ’04, the Eagles need leadership from their nine seniors in order to be successful.

“Seniors make all the difference,” Wiebe said. “We will decide whether the team plays under our leadership and is successful or if we just have a mediocre year.”

The junior varsity starts at 5:30 P.M., followed by the varsity at 7:30 P.M. Tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for students and are available in the office or by phone at 297-9464, ext. 5.
