The college admission process like no other class before for the class of 2021. Not only are they applying to colleges, FAFSA, and scholarships for the first time, but they have to take on the additional changes due to COVID-19.

‘Tis the season of deadlines, acceptance letters, scholarships and FAFSA. In the busyness of the new semester, seniors are balancing their academics and extracurricular activities. As the first semester comes to a close, the second semester welcomes students with a new list of responsibilities to complete before graduation quickly approaches.

Fall welcomes a new season of SAT/ACT test dates, college applications and college fairs. Seniors are busy finalizing their list of colleges they plan on applying to while also maintaining a good academic standing. Yet college fairs, NACCAP benefits can still provide post secondary insight.

As seniors slowly start closing the chapter of college planning, the juniors are in full swing! This is the season of college visits, scholarship searches, and prepping for the SAT and ACT.

The planning process for the school year can be a stressful task for some students. Where do you start? What should you be on the lookout for? Below, I have provided an outline month by month on what students should expect for the second half of the school year.

Finals week is here and the days until Christmas break can now be counted on one hand! As students are eager to dive into their three week vacation, high school juniors should utilize this time to better equip themselves as they enter their second semester.

As Thanksgiving break approaches, it provides a great opportunity for students to take advantage of their free time by dedicating some of it to begin or complete their college applications if they have not already done so. Evangelina Tello recommends seniors apply early in the application process to meet all deadlines. Starting on Nov. 1, the University of California (UC) application opened for students to apply and submit their application to the UC of their choice. Seniors are strongly encouraged not to procrastinate completing their desired applications.

The fall semester is a busy season for our seniors as they are gathering letters of recommendation, attending college fairs, and taking advantage of application workshops. Clovis High School will host the first FAFSA workshop from 6 p.m to 8 p.m., Oct. 15. This event will start in the cafeteria where they will provide a quick introduction and then move into the library for families ready to begin the application process. Alyssa Reese | The Feather Online Every year starting on Oct. 1 this is the beginning for not only the CSU application window but also the start date for when students and their parents may begin filling out the FAFSA. To begin the process there will be a workshop hosted tonight which will be mentioned later on in the article.

The 2018-2019 school year has kicked off to a great start here at FCS! Last October I started my new position as Fresno Christian’s academic adviser and I was thrilled to be returning this school year to experience a first day of school. And now seniors need to pay attention to upcoming dates and deadlines. Students and parents can find the new location of my office downstairs in the junior high and high school office. Along with a new location, I am now serving as the high school California Scholarship Federation (CSF) coordinator where I will be working with the student members and hosting lunch meetings.
