Laying it all out this season with hard work, dedication and some tears, the Fresno Christian girls tennis team steps out on the court one last time. The girls dominated their entire season with a record of 18-4. The road led the girls to win the CIF Division V Valley Championships against Madera High School, Nov. 12.
Throughout the championship match, the girls took every shot with confidence and poise. Head coaches Robert Foshee and Daniel “Bulldog” Jessing encouraged the girls to win at least two out of three doubles matches to help secure the win. The team took it even farther and won all three.
“Sweeping all three doubles matches was absolutely crucial to beating Madera,” Jessing said. “It has been so amazing to see the girls slowly become a championship caliber team over the course of the season.”
Doubles partners Natalie Sullivan, ‘25, and Georgia Karlson, ‘26, had a nail biting match against the Coyotes. Karlson and Sullivan had only played one match together before championships. The other eagles came down to the court to cheer Sullivan and Karlson on since it was the last doubles match. Persevering through tough plays, the girls ended up winning their match, 9-7, securing all of the doubles matches as wins.
“Winning my championship match with Georgia was amazing,” Sullivan said. “Even with simple mistakes, we were able to work well together as partners and get the win. It was so nice to make my teammates and coaches proud.”
Quickly after doubles, the top four singles players took the court. In most matches, it all comes down to the singles games. Abigail Herren, ‘25, swiftly won her singles match 6-1, 6-0. Coaches from both teams agreed to end the whole championship game when one team reached five wins. With Herren’s singles win, there was only one more game to go.
Delaney Meyers, ‘26, continued to fight in her singles match against Madera. Meyers scored the winning point, and the eagles stormed the court. Cheering, smiles and joy rushed onto the court as the girls celebrated their valley championship win.
