MercyMe captivates Fresno crowd

Big Fresno Fair hosts popular Christian band

I walked briskly through the crowded fair lanes, past the various vendors and their fried delicacies. The air was heavy with the smells of frying food and smoke from the various BBQs. I made my way up the stairs into the auditorium where the concert was already in full swing.

When I first came to this concert I had expected it to be simply mediocre, as the venue was not the best. However I was surprised by how unique and rather innovative the concert was and how this made up for the usual “smoke and lights effects” that weren’t at this concert.

What I found to be innovative was their use of the display screen, which they used to interact with the audience often times telling the audience to do things like “if you want to freak out the band  raise your right hand”, this was very effective at eliciting a response from the audience.

In addition to this, the lead singer Bart Millard had an excellent stage presence, he was able interact with the audience in such a way that he was able to make himself familiar with the audience. He accomplished this through a variety of jokes and stories.

I really enjoyed the music, Mercyme did. They did an excellent job of mixing both their old and new songs. The lead singer Bart Millard even acknowledged the fact that they didn’t have enough time to do all of their songs.

One way that they remedied this is they played parts of their old songs so that people could hear at least part of their favorite songs. Some songs such as I can only Imagine or All of Creation were older and others such as Flawless and Welcome to the New were more recent.

A problem arose when I was getting into the fairgrounds and the credit and debit machines shut down leaving me and my mother with to little cash to pay for our entrance into the fair.

I prayed and we waited awhile and right when we were about to leave, a group of women offered to pay for our entrance in. They gave us coupons that allowed us to get into the fair with the money we had.

This was a great blessing and meant a lot, so I would encourage you to do something to help another person. Even something small can change a person’s day this event certainly changed mine.

I enjoyed this concert more than I had expected I would and it exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend going to one of their concerts if you get the chance to do so.
