The spring season brings around a feeling of new life. Nature that has died in the winter now comes back to life in an environment of green. For FCS, spring sport seasons are also starting up.

Softball for example, has started practice. There is a lot of talent on this year’s team. Upcoming freshman, who were Valley Champions on last year’s junior high team, bring skill and focus to the varsity squad. Seniors, who lead the team with hard-work and leadership, look for success in their final year.

The girls play their first game on Feb. 27, 2018, versus Avenal Buccaneers at 3:30 p.m. at home.

Hannah Villines, ‘21, is one of those upcoming freshman who won the Valley Championship last year. She anticipates this upcoming season and the new challenge it brings.

“Well, considering the fact that I’m the only girl that played on the championship junior high team last year, that is playing this year; I don’t have any expectations for this team,” Villines said. “I have also never played softball with any of these girls before so I’m just gonna go into it ready for anything. My favorite part about softball is getting to become a family with my team, and the competitiveness within the sport.”

Senior Alyssa Melillo recently joined the FCS family starting the second semester. This will be her first and last season with the varsity softball team.

“I’m really excited to start playing games and to see where all of our hard work takes us,” Melillo said. “My favorite part is actually practicing. Our practices are a lot of fun and I enjoy pitching.”

Celeste Counts, ‘18, has played softball all four years of high school. She enjoys practicing with her team and getting some wins.

“I’m really excited to be out with my friends,” Counts said. “Hopefully we can get a couple wins. My favorite part about playing softball is playing infelicities and hitting.”

The high school girls softball team has not had a lot of success these past few years. But with new talent this year and returning seniors the team is set for the path of success. The team is coached this year by David Davila and assisted by Steve Villines.

Support the girls softball team today by attending their home game today. Let’s go Eagles!
