Art collage project by Benjamin Vaipan

Description: First year art students were asked to find 25 words, in different fonts, that described themselves. The students used perspective, positive/negative space in layering their words and color schemes on their project. The medias used for this project were ink pen and colored pencils.

Vaipan utilizes the American flag to represent his patriotism and the flag of Israel because his great, great grandfather was Jewish. He added the Russian flag because his parents immigrated from the USSR. The pro-cop flag shows his support for police officers.

A large section of the art piece shows his passion for YouTube and channels like Team Edge, Rect, Odd1sOut, GG, and Matthias. Vaipan’s faith also is a big part of the collage and drew a cross to represent his Christian faith and included a Bible, the CrossCity logo, and the Frap House logo.

The last main section in the collage is the Marvel section, adding a Marvel logo, the Avengers logo, Captain America’s shield, and Iron Man. He also drew dark chocolate because “There is no God but one God, and there is no chocolate but dark chocolate.”

Strength and conditioning class represents his passion for fitness. Later he included an angle fish, keeping with his hobby. The wrench inside a gear indicates his goal to be an engineer in the future.

Vaipan worked on this collage from the first week August to the first week of September  at home and in class.
