Campus packed 501 OCC boxes in 2017

During third period, Feather staffers go to the store to fill boxes for Operation Christmas Child, Oct. 18. The video team gets an early start to packing their first boxes.

[/media-credit] Feather staffers line up to pay for the items in their show boxes, Oct. 17.

Operation Christmas Child started in 1990, when a man named David Cooke form North Wales was watching the news on television. Seeing the horror of abandoned children left in Romanian orphanages tugged on his heart, so he decided to fill a truck up with toys and drive it to Romania.

That same year in December, a convoy of vehicles left for Romania with 17 volunteers with the first gift-filled shoeboxes. Realizing the impact they had, the volunteers decided to continue the work. Since then, Operation Christmas Child has delivered over 100 million shoeboxes to children in need all over the world, with them delivering the good news of Jesus Christ.

To pack a box, first find a shoebox. Then pick an age range and gender from the options listed on their website, and go to the store to find items. A list of suggestions is can be found here.

The due deadline to turn the boxes in is Nov. 7, so make sure to turn in your boxes to room 628 room by then. After the boxes are turned in they are shipped worldwide to over 100 countries. The boxes can be tracked so you can see where the boxes go if you print your tracking label here.

Last year, Fresno Christian Schools packed 501 boxes, exceeding the original school record goal of 400. Let’s make it a goal to surpass last year’s record. How many boxes will you pack? Please leave your goal is the comment section below.

The following video summarizes how Operation Christmas Child works and explains how to pack a shoebox.
